McCain's California Team

About a year or so ago, before Bush selected the eminently qualified Paul Wolfowitz to be the head of the World Bank, there was some talk that the post would be awarded to Carly Fiorina. This is the same Carly Fiorina who, in the space of a few short years, managed to bring a major technology firm to its knees and was then fired by the board of that firm. At the time, Wonks Anonymous wondered how she could possibly be qualified to head the World Bank.  In retrospect, she was better than the guy who finally got the job.

Well, Carly is back and working even harder in her new field - politics. Today's SF Chronicle reports that she is now John McCain's California fundraiser and part of the high tech team that will "hold his hand" when he is forced to address the difficult topic of economics. She may even get a high level political appointment out of it.

I can see Carly as secretary of the Treasury: We might solve all our problems by downsizing the nation. Perhaps she could offer all of us inconvenient and unproductive Boomers early retirement? In Kazakstan?

Isn't it just grand. Entrepreneurs take risks. If they succeed, they are rewarded with high salaries and other benefits. If they fail?
