Over the past two weeks Wonks Anonymous has learned two new things:

• The Great State of Alaska currently rakes in $1.84 in Federal support for every dollar that it contributes in taxes.
• There is an Alaska Independence Party - by all accounts quite popular in that state - whose slogan is Alaska First - Alaska Always.

Wonks Anonymous realizes that many are indignant with the fact that Sarah Palin was a fellow traveler with this party, if she was not a member, at least until she discovered that earmarks did not come from Santa Claus after all. In a spirit of reconciliation, however, Wonks Anonymous would like to think outside the partisan box:

If we give these clowns their independence then we can cut off their welfare payments. Maybe we should all donate to this worthy cause.
