Sometime about a year ago Somalia, after 17 or so years of complete anarchy, was beginning to return to order under a national government. The movement also happened to be Islamist and loosely connected, in our minds at least, with various bad guys.

So what could we do? The obvious answer was to hire the Ethiopians to invade and provide them with air support. Whatever else we do we can sure bomb people.

The Islamists ran. A "provisional government" was put in place and now, one year later. Somalia has again descended into complete anarchy. Pirates use its territory to harass world shipping and the Islamists are back. Details here.
