Cyber Czar
The Insight Section in Today's SF Comical contains a discussion of legislation designed to prevent cyber-terrorism by the likes of China and Russia and a libertarian counter argument that tells us: Don't put the Feds in charge of the internet!
Cyber terrorism is a serious threat. Some unscrupulous group could unleash viruses or worms that would penetrate internet routers and cause slow and unreliable service to the homes of America. The vital channels of commerce and information would grind to a halt . Blogging would halt. These criminals could use their power to extort millions from the helpless public.
Kind of like what happened here in Alameda last night. For which see the previous post.
Considering that the Feds were the ones who built the internet in the first place Wonks Anonymous finds the notion of a spontaneous, libertarian web just a bit comical. He also wonders at the amount of worry spent on imagined terrorist attacks when the ordinary extortion and inconvenience provided by domestic ISPs is far more damaging to the economy.
Can Comcast be declared a terrorist organization?
