It occurs to Wonks Anonymous that right now might be a good time to get the flu. It's spring, there's a brand new strain going around and - so far as we know - not many people are dying of it.

So far it turns out that public health officials have worried about the worst but, even in Mexico, they have overestimated the risks. Mainly they seem to have done this by attributing all the recent Mexican pneumonia deaths to the flu. See last night's All Things Considered for the story.

This is laudable caution at the beginning of an epidemic but it seems to be less important as more evidence comes in. Maybe Wonks Anonymous is being optimistic but he thinks that now would be a good time to get an immunity to this one, just in case it mutates to something worse during the coming flu season.
