Affirmative Action

John Wildermuth, Carla Marinucci reporting on the California State budget crisis in this morning's Comical present a table of pros and cons for various measure designed to fix our chronic budget impasse.

Under the cons for one proposal - restore majority rule by dropping the 2/3 requirement for passage of fiscal measures - they give the following objection:
Majority party could ignore the opposition completely.
Indeed. Wonks Anonymous would like to know why we should pay any attention to an opposition party that is only able to win two or three seats over 1/3 of the legislature. This is an even more serious question when we realize that our legislative districts are drawn to provide incumbents, Democrats and Republicans alike, with sure seats.

If the Republicans do not want to be ignored they should acquire some legislative job skills. Wonks Anonymous would suggest they start with basic math and social skills. At present they do not play well with other children.
