In further affirmative action our stalwart Comical reporters reproduce without critique the sole Republican talking point on the budget:

If only we had eliminated all services for undocumented aliens it would be fat city. Tax cuts and no spending cuts.

Services to undocumented aliens may be unreimbursed by the Federal Government, They are not unreimbursed. The sales and income taxes are the main source of income for the State of California and undocumented workers pay both these taxes. Their labor also contributes the profits of California Agriculture and other industries which are sources of tax revenue.

Now two tier citizenship is not a novel concept. The Old South was built on the idea that Negroes had obligations to work and pay taxes but little or no claim on public spending. Wonks Anonymous supposes that there would be slightly more justification for taxing non citizens and refusing them services.

Shall we extend this hospitality to legal immigrants? People here on temporary work visas? How about tourists?
