I've Got Mine, Now What Is Your Problem?
So the Republicans have mobilized masses of retired white people to scream obscenities at their congress critters and try to stop health policy reform. And these masses have two concerns:
Health spending is too high and it will bankrupt the nation so we cannot possible afford to extend health care to young people, poor people or, god forbid, the dread illegal aliens in our midst.
Government run health care is a bad idea that will sap our moral fiber and lead to death camps for senior citizens.
These fine folks appear to be forgetting some things:
One of the greatest looming problems for the budget - a great part of our future medical costs - is spending for a program that is already in place, Medicare, which provides care for the elderly and the disabled. We may disagree on the ways that can be used to humanely restrain Medicare costs but we need to discuss ways to restrain Medicare costs.
They are all currently secure in their government run health care with no death camps looming on the horizon. It works pretty well, thank you. You can't keep the gummit out of your Medicare because it is the gummit by cracky.
It would appear that what these folks want is government funded health care with no restrictions, for themselves. The rest of us are on our own.
And they say that Boomers are selfish!
