Reading The Tea Leaves

So the NY Times/CBS News have released new poll data which show that:
  1. We favor a public health insurance option to compete with private insurers by a margin of 65% to 26%. 9% remain undecided.
  2. 30% of the people support Obama's proposed changes to the health care system, 23% oppose them and 46% do not know enough.
  3. 76% of the people disapprove of the Republican position on Health Care. Most say that they have offered no concrete proposals but simply oppose everything.
Wonks Anonymous humble interpretation follows:
  1. People want the public option by an overwhelming margin.
  2. Many people who want a public option are not sure that Obama will support it when push comes to shove. They say that they don't know enough about his position.
  3. People don't know much about the Republican position except that it will not include a public option. They disapprove.
So tell us again why the public option can't pass. It seems to Wonks Anonymous that it is political suicide to support a bill without the public option.
