And these values would be opposition to abortion and a strict ban on gay people ever forming families or adopting and taking care of kids without families. Which population of kids would surely grow in the event that the churches ever had their way about abortion and birth control.

They are worried that younger Christians might be led astray by the blandishments of the world:

They say they also want to speak to younger Christians who have become engaged in issues like climate change and global poverty, and who are more accepting of homosexuality than their elders. They say they want to remind them that abortion, homosexuality and religious freedom are still paramount issues.

“We argue that there is a hierarchy of issues,” said Charles Colson, a prominent evangelical who founded Prison Fellowship after serving time in prison for his role in the Watergate scandal. “A lot of the younger evangelicals say they’re all alike. We’re hoping to educate them that these are the three most important issues.”

Now Wonks Anonymous would like to point out that these folks have it all wrong. If they really read their Bible they would realize that what people do in bed with their dirty bits was of supreme unimportance to the lord of hosts. Most of the books of Moses, the source of our Bible based laws, are not devoted to sex but to diet, to an enumeration of the priestly families who are entitled to take future clerical roles and to priestly vestments, rituals and sacrifice.

More lines are devoted to a listing of obscure Middle Eastern Animals that you cannot eat than to gay sex.

If we were really serious about getting right with God our main political drive would be to eliminate swine from these Judeo-Christian United States. I am sure Senator Lieberman would join in this campaign.
