Vanishing Moderates
Are the new endangered species according to the always somewhat amusing Debra J Saunders of the SF Comical. Which assertion puzzles Wonks Anonymous somewhat since he was under the impression that Moderate Democrats were about as common as fleas in Berkeley in the Fall.
Let that pass however, Wonks Anonymous is most interested in the shift in the definition of moderation. Ms. Saunders is talking about folks like Joe Lieberman and Ben Nelson. That would be folks who sit somewhere between the Senate Republicans and the Senate Democrats on the right left spectrum.
About 60% of all senators are to the left of these folks. When we factor in the fact that small population, conservative states are over represented in the Senate we must conclude that somewhat more than 60% of the population - that would be a majority - holds more liberal views than these folks.
Do we have a new, free market, statistics that Wonks Anonymous was not informed? s the median no longer the 50th percentile?
