Boffo
Is putting on a show to impress clients. This is particularly important in professions that depend on the faith and active cooperation of the client.
Medicine would be such a profession.
So at the family Christmas party Wonks Anonymous had an interesting conversation with a relative about doctors and neck injuries and so on. Which relative was more than a little disappointed with the performance of a rather pricey local medical group - not Wonks Anonymous employers but it could have been - that had failed to help with neck injuries. The relative was finally satisfied with the performance of a Chiropractor who had taken extensive x-rays and diagnosed the condition.
Which anecdote brought to mind Wonks Anonymous own long history of nasty little neck and back issues which never really got resolved until he went to a physical therapist - which people are really chiropractors without some of the sillier ideas.
in Wonks Anonymous experience MDs just do not get the minutiae of the spine. They have a general picture but it really seems to take exclusive devotion to this sort of thing to do a good diagnosis and get a good treatment plan. In Wonks Anonymous experience the doctors prescribed and did x-rays but the thing that really did the trick was the referral to physical therapy.
The therapist used some low tech equipment and asked a lot of questions. The diagnosis and treatment plan were spot on.
Wonks Anonymous suspects that the Chiropractor did much the same thing but threw in the x-rays for boffo.
