Bad Wonk, No Donut
Bryan Pick corrects Wonks Anonymous about Tom Campbell's stand on social issues. Campbell did in fact come out against Proposition H8 in Reason. Which publication Wonks Anonymous confesses that he rarely reads, except when waiting to pick up an order at Top Dog.
Could Campbell have been a little more public in his opposition to Proposition H8? Spoken at a few rallies maybe?
Now the position is carefully nuanced and Campbell believes that the voters of California do have the right to establish the doctrines of a particular sect as the official definition marriage for all citizens of the state, even believers whose God(s) sanction gay marriages and unbelievers.
Wonks Anonymous considers that someone with legal training ought to at least consider the reasoning of the founders when they prohibited the establishment of religion. Be that as it may Campbell does come up to the exacting standards set by the President and most Democrats on this important issue.
That would be called damning with faint praise. That would apply to a great many "social moderates" of both parties.
