Hiding Your Light

The SF Comical feels threatened by the web, as they well should since they are not really playing with a full deck as far as web strategies go.

So they have responded by making their best Sunday stories dead tree exclusives. These being available only in the paper or on the e-edition, whatever that is. And that includes some very fine original reporting like an investigative piece on candidate for governor Meg Whitman's incestuous and corrupt ties to Goldman Sachs by Lance Williams and Carla Marinucci.

Wonks Anonymous would provide a link but there isn't any.

Readers of this blog will have to wait to Tuesday to get a live link to this important story which is really too long to summarize or rip off. In the meantime people who go to SFChronicle.com will see absolutely no mention of this important story and no invitation to subscribe to the e-edition - again whatever that is. In the meantime someone else might just pick up the story do a bit of rework and get it all over the Web before that.

We invented the web here in the Bay Area but the SF Comical web site
is hard to navigate and the user participation features are designed to bring discussion down to the lowest common denominator. The site would be shameful for a high school newspaper.

So here's a toast to Lance Williams and Carla Marinucci two great reporters who really need better management.
